Femme Your Finance – Post #1
“How to build wealth” is NOT a topic many women want to think about, much less discuss over a glass of wine with a girlfriend, or curl up on the couch on a rainy day and read about.
In fact, if you are reading this post, you may suddenly be feeling a sense of unease, uncomfortable curiosity, and a spark of shame rising within you. You know it’s a topic you “should” learn, but “Ugh”…all you really want is to have some financial security, take care of yourself and those that matter most to you, and live a good life.
Oh, and NOT die broke and alone!!
Is that really too much to ask?! Why do you have to learn about “WEALTH BUILDING”???
Since you are still reading this, you are likely sensing that for women to survive and succeed in today’s world, it has never been more important to create financial security and economic-empowerment than it is now. And, to do this requires that you learn how to BUILD WEALTH. For real. Your spider senses were right. Keep reading, sister.
Despite our advances toward more equal pay, we cannot miss the forest for the trees. The BIG elephants in the room are:
- the ever-widening gender wealth gap,
- eroding government supports,
- weakening social supports, and
- minimal influence on government and economic policy that protect women.
Women and Learning How to Build Wealth
Women – married, single, divorced, widowed, employed, unemployed, business owners, stay-at-home-mom’s – are ALL increasingly putting themselves at huge financial risk by not learning how to build wealth.
However, the ‘how-to’ of wealth building is no easy task for most women to learn given the taboo nature of money, the gender messaging around money roles, and the fact that the money system has been mostly operated by men…oh, and designed BY men FOR men.
To be fair, the designing of the money system “for men” is not exactly for nefarious reasons. It’s just that the men in charge design, write about, talk about, teach, build, operate and deliver in naturally masculine ways….ways that often don’t feel in sync with women.
Until more women hold influential roles in the financial system AND feel confident to guide more of the feminine into how money is discussed, invested and handled, the women in the marketplace (that’s you and me!) are going to have the burden of financial translation.
In other words, we still have to work with the masculine system, tools, texts, and guidance…AND we have to TRANSLATE it all into something that feels more natural, values-centric and life-integrated to our womanly selves.
An increasing number of women around the globe (especially in the United States) have decided that it is time for this to change. (me, included!) Yeah, baby!
Obviously, we cannot scrap the whole financial system and start over. But, we CAN begin to shift things and remove some of the obstacles and challenges women face. Which is why I’m so glad you are still here reading what I have to share! Squeeeee!
Wealth Building in a Woman’s Way
Women have long needed a different way to think about and approach money and wealth-building that honors the different priorities women hold, what they value, and the lives they desire to lead.
In this book, I intend to show you a more feminine approach to building wealth that feels in greater alignment with your life and goals. I also intend to give you deep insight into obstacles hidden all throughout the financial and cultural systems that may be hurting your ability to build wealth – some of which you may already be aware and others which are not so obvious – so that you can rethink them or remove them.
My End Goal
In the end, my goal is to instill a whole wealth-building system (which, by the way, is based on a Money Tree) in your mind that will:
- Show you how to build wealth in a more feminine way – hence “Femme Your Finance”
- Help you understand how all the wealth-building pieces fit together and influence one another
- Show you the best place to start or ramp up your own wealth-building journey
- Guide you to incorporate your deepest-held values, personal goals, life circumstances and desire for impact into your wealth-building plan
- Remove some of the intimidation factor of the money system and show you that you CAN be kickass at wealth-building
- Show you how to troubleshoot financial challenges that WILL arise
- Remove the taboo and any long-felt shame about your current financial situation
- Get you into action so that you become the kind of woman who is confidently building wealth for long-term financial security and economic empowerment – not just a saver, cost-cutter, budgeter, and bill payer.
Who Am I?
If you don’t know me already, I’m Kelly Harrell (Certified Money Coach (CMC)®) and I help women become wealth builders. (You can learn more about me HERE.) I’m writing this book (and freely sharing it here on this blog) because of the urgency I feel about the ever-widening gender wealth gap.
Women are meant to be (and NEED to be) equal economic players in this world. In fact, I strongly believe we’d have a much healthier and happier planet if women had more equal financial influence on the world’s problems.
When you take steps to learn how to build wealth as a woman, you help fill the gender wealth gap, make a difference in the world, and create greater security and fulfillment for yourself and those you love.

I have a favor to ask, though.
I need, want, and encourage your questions and feedback on this evolving manuscript.
If something doesn’t make sense, if you want more clarification, if something triggers you, if you love something I wrote and you want more of it, if you have a burning question I’ve not yet addressed, or even if you just want to say “Hello”, the Comment section below is open and waiting for you with open arms.
I’ll endeavor to respond within a few business days. (I’m a wife, a kid mom, a dog mom, and a daughter to aging parents who sometimes need me. I’m also doing physical therapy 20-30 hours/week for an injury I suffered earlier this year….so I’m juggling a lot. Your patience is most appreciated!)
Please come back tomorrow!
In tomorrow’s post, I will delve into who this book is for, why women need a different model, and how to use this book.
